Hi Guys,
So, I splurged and bought the Dragon Jeep from Monkey Depot that was
the DXPO '08 exclusive item. I don't exactly know why I did as the
Hasbro, SOTW and 21st vehicles are just fine and are all very good.
The 21st beats the Hasbro Jeep in detail, while the Hasbro Jeep wins
hands down in playability. And the SOTW was just a nice Jeep to
customize and the price was very right on it. So, now there's the DML
Jeep. Priced at over 10 SOTW Jeeps, 4 21st Jeeps, or around 8 Hasbro
Jeeps this vehicel model had better be SWEET!
If packaging counts, and to most of us it does not, the plain brown
box with the paper flyer taped to one side to designate that the Jeep
in the contents of the package is functional. The formed gray
styrofoam insert that encases the Jeep is masterful. Although, it did
not entirely prevent damage to my particular Jeep. I'll say that for
the $300 pricetag, I would have liked to think that the 5 gallon gas
can would have been included. It was not.
The vehicle is mostly assembled. Under the hood, a small baggie
holding some parts like the 'T' hooks for the hood, the main gear
****ft, the steering wheel and column, and the ax mount. The Spare
tire is in a separate place in the foam packing material. There
aren't too many pieces that have to be put on. The shovel is already
mounted, but can be removed.
The Jeep is a model plastic and not some sort of resin. So, that was
a really good start.
The tires are rubber. They don't seem to stay beaded all that well.
The front wheels steer, though the steering wheel is not functional.
Actual pedals for the gas, brake and clutch. So, be careful sticking
a driver's feet in there.
Detailed legible decals on the dash board
Wind****eld can be lowered and features a working hand operated wiper
assembly.
The wind****eld locks to keep it in the upright position are
functional.
The seats are molded. No attempt at the cloth like 21st.
The front passenger seat does not fold forward while their front
sup****ts are not all that strong.
I apologize, but I must cut this short although I have much to say
about it.
My Jeep had one of the wind****eld wipers broken and the passenger
front tire wouldn't stay on. I was able to repair both of these
reasonable easily. The pin broke in the hole for the wiper blade
assembly. I was able to remove the pin, reattach it with some super
glue and reassemble the rig with another dab of superglue to mate up
the control handle.
There are MANY details to this Jeep that escape my initial look at it
late last night. Was it worth it? I don't know. I like to have a
little playability in my stuff and this is definately a model. I
played with my models a when I built them. So, it'll be like that.
A cautious play.
Was it worth it? I am still on the fence. I like it. But, it is
very expensive. I would gladly have bought 2 at $100 a piece... If
that means anything.
Thanks for the read,
-'Ron-Man'
