Today's Wal-Mart Visit

by Chad Rushing <notus00@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 18, 2008 at 05:50 PM

So, I went to Wal-Mart this evening to return an extra unopened ANIM
Snarl as I had found one with a much better paint job elsewhere. The
return went out without a hitch, so I went to find something on which
to spend my newly acquired gift card.

Oh, while I was returning that toy, the ca****er mentioned that all of
the self-checkout lanes had been removed the night before. Sure
enough, I turned around and saw a big empty area where they used to
be. It seems too many people were using them to shoplift for the
store to justify keeping them. As always, the dishonest jerks ruin a
good thing for all the rest of us. That really irritated me to no end
because it was awesome to be able to ring up and bag my own toys and
DVDs without having to worry about some clumsy/apathetic clerk bending
up the packaging on them. Once Wal-Mart put in self-checkout lanes, I
started using that retail chain for like 90% of my local toy
purchases.

(On a related note, one Wal-Mart I visit has to keep all of the DVDs,
not just the console games, locked up in glass cases because people
steal so many of them. A guy working in Electronics told me that kids
take them into the restrooms, crack open the cases, toss the cases in
the trash, and walk out with just the discs hidden in their clothes.
If I ever caught a kid of mine doing something like that, I would make
sure the punishment he/she received would make him/her think twice
about ever doing it again, perhaps something with an element of
humilation like wearing a t-****rt in public that says, "I Was Caught
Shoplifting at Wal-Mart.")

The whole store is being completely rearranged right now, so it is
pretty chaotic. They have moved the toy clearance area to some
shelves along the main path from the front of the store to the back.
For some unknown reason, there were many brand new toys stacked in the
clearance area including all of the UNIV Legends figures and an ANIM
Ldr Megatron. I moved the latter back to the normal toy section
myself, but there was no place to put the former back in the TF
section.

I noticed some Transformers t-****rts in the boys section, so I
wandered over that way. (I did not buy any of them.) Near the
shelves that house all the t-****rts of licensed characters, there were
some t-****rts hanging up that each came with a free toy. For those of
you who like generic, transforming toys, there were these red t-****rts
that each came with a dinosaur toy that transformed into a robot.
There was a yellow Velociraptor (I think) and a red Pachycephalosaurus
(the bipedal one with the hard, domed head); those were the only two I
saw. From what I could make out, the quality of that transforming
dinos was fairly poor. In case you go looking for them, other t-
****rts on those pegs were packaged with toy monster trucks.

I ended buying a Movie Dlx Cliffjumper, which had been recently
restocked, with the gift card. It was one of the few movie toys that
I missed first time around. Even though they just rearranged
everything, a good ****tion of the Transformers section is still
reserved for movie toys, so I guess they are not going to be going
anywhere anytime soon.
