Drawing the line between creativity and the cold, hard facts

by erincurric660@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Erin) Apr 11, 2004 at 09:01 PM

I am an elementary education student in the first semester of my
professional sequence. In my cl*****, my instructors have stressed
the im****tance of play and creativity. I understand that young
children learn a lot of information and concepts through play.
However, I am wondering where teachers should, or if they should, draw
the line. For example, if a child is drawing a purple horse, should a
teacher let it be, considering it an artistic choice or should he/she
explain to the child that horses are not born purple? Are we stifling
creativity by correcting the student?
