As a student in the first semester of a professional teacher ed.
sequence, I see many of the benefits and disadvantages of such a
program. The experience and knowledge gained during the program is
irreplaceable and makes me feel more prepared for my future position
as an elementary school teacher. However, the program is definitely
expensive and takes a number of semesters to complete. Is it possible
that alternative teacher training is a better option? Do current
teacher shortages demand shorter training periods? Will teachers with
alternative training be able to perform at the same level as someone
with less training? Should they be paid as much?
