Dear Fellow Educators:
I am a new teachers (5 years in) working at a private school on Long
Island.
I don't have many connections or acquaintances in the public schools and I
am curious as to what type of politics, expectations and room for
advancement there is in the public system.
My experiences with the private school system thus far have been
unpleasant.
In particular, I am dismayed by the way that teachers are treated. I do
not
want to put my laundry list of complaints here as I do not feel this is
the
proper forum.
Here on Long Island it seems that we constantly hear about the fraudulent
dealings of school superintendents, but I have not heard much about the
way
that educators are encouraged to grow in the areas of professional
development. More specifically, I am interested in hearing from those of
you in the public system (whatever states you may find yourselves in) as
it
appertains to the systems investments into the development and improvement
of its teachers.
I wish to engage the group in a candid discussion, mostly I am seeking
advise, as to how to get into the public system and what the good, bad and
ugly sides of such systems are.
Thank you for your time,
Nelson Deutsch
