My son turned 5 last year just two weeks before kindergarten started. He
didn't go to preschool and I had no idea how much was expected of a
kindergartener these days(he's my only child). During his first two weeks,
he as tested and it was recommended that he be put in a program called
EIP(early intervention program) since he was not performing on grade
level. After 4 months of school, he was tested again and was performing
on grade level, but it was recommended that he stay in EIP for the
remainder of the year. His teacher has assured me that he will pass on to
1st grade, but I am worried about letting him go on to there. He is still
not as advanced as some of the other kids in his class. He is one of the
youngest ones in there and has a hard time trying to keep up with the
rest. They know more "sight" words than him, some can read, and do other
things that he cannot yet. Has anyone else ever had this problem. I just
want him to be really prepared for 1st grade and not have to struggle in
there also. Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
