I have written a foreign language tutor which works on the Net for
anyone to use.
It is at http://www.ukcs.net/learn
There is also a word square/word search program I stuck up there
earlier this week and announced.
You have a choice of :
French
Spanish
German
****tuguese
Italian
The SayIt language tutor was one of the UK's most popular educational
packages in 1991-92, published in 10 magazines When I worked in
schools I had networked rooms and we used to keep the kids busy for
hours. It has been resurrected to work on the Net. The quiz is simple.
It will give you a word, you choose the correct translation. The
computer will tell you if you are right or wrong. It will then repeat.
It will keep it up all day long, if you wish. The original SayIt had
the advantage it spoke. The technology is now available to use the
files across the world, but the speech modules are locked away in a
machine in England and they will be integrated into this version
possibly August 2004. There are only nouns there because the lists
have been machine translated. The machine translations of verbs and
adjectives that were returned in German were laughable. Anyone
speaking English as a second language and who has lived in the UK,
North America, Australia, or New Zealand for more than 3 years who
wishes to add another language, add to the current language
dictionary, or correct the current version, is welcome to come
forward. Any added language must use the Western alphabet; most Asian
and Slavic language will have to be exempt sorry.
Mike.
