Wakefield is completely discredited.  He withheld information from
publishers and his fellow researchers about the vast sums paid to him
by solicitors.  He built a theory based upon the presence of measles
virus in the gut and when it couldn't be found went to a laboratory
set up purely to provide analytic services to the solicitors who
employed him.  When that one (Unigenetics Ltd) "found" measles it was
patently obvious from their own data that their samples were
contaminated.

Unigenetics would not hand over the data necessary to check their
re****ted findings until ordered to do so by the High Court (2004 EWHC
1098 (QB) Royal Courts of Justice ).  They closed shortly afterwards.

Legal Aid funding for the MMR trial was withdrawn when it became
apparent that the presence of measles RNA in the gut, the essential
point of their case, was not being found when the samples  were
retested in other laboratories (including one nominated by the
claimants) and showed negative.

Notwithstanding that his reputation as a scientist is in tatters
Wakefield today is a much wealthier man than he would have been had he
stayed in research.
