Let me start by saying I LOVE my OB. He is beyond fabulous, and we're
really on the same page regarding natural childbirth, natural
processes etc.
I went in for a f/u today after my miscarriage started - I stopped
bleeding completely yesterday, and he wanted to do an u/s to make sure
it was all clear and there was no need for a D&C - he didn't want to
do a D&C unless it was really necessary. Fortunately, everything
cleared on its own, no need for surgery. Emotionally it all pretty
much sucks but I'm trying to look at this as just another step, now we
can move forward and try again.
He said he wasn't too concerned with a need for testing, and I tend to
agree, but wondered if anyone else had insight I should consider.
One m/c age 35 at 12 weeks.
I've had 1 successful pregnancy (tho difficult birth situation, the
pregnancy was fine, no risk) age 36
1 ectopic age 38
1 m/c now, age 38 at technically 8 weeks, but we could tell from 6
weeks it didn't look like the fetus ever developed.
genetic testing on tissue from the first m/c found triploidy, and
though my prior OB referred me to a high risk specialist, the
specialist said it was random and didn't find any reason to think I
was at risk for any genetic problems, though we didn't do any other
testing.
ectopic is random enough. No reason to think that embryo would not
have been viable.
This m/c, no testing- passed all the tissue.
I'm ok with that, and I think I agree with him that I'm still at low
risk and this was just random bad luck, coupled with age, although the
main issue with age is a lack of fertility, and that's clearly not a
significant problem. We talked about progesterone levels, and he felt
that if that was a problem, I wouldn't have gotten implantation. I had
been worried about that before since it took awhile to conceive
despite careful timing, but I also had poor quality CM. First month of
gufainesein and vitex fixed that. He said we could use progesterone as
soon as I think I conceive just to be safe, but didn't really think it
was necessary.
Vitex is making me nervous - I know it's supposed to help conceive and
then prevent m/c, but both times I've used it I've had bad luck
(ectopic and now m/c).
So my question is - is there anything else we should be considering?
Despite my age, I have genetics on my side - many many women in my
family have given birth well into their 40s, tho it was their 8th+
kid....and I have had one successful pregnancy.
