For night time sleep I moved from nursing Luke to sleep, to walking
him to sleep, to laying down with him to get him to sleep. He is 2
now and I still lay down with him when he goes to sleep. They rocked
him at daycare until he moved to the room where all the kids had cots.
They had to rock him in that room for two days and then he went to
his cot when the other kids did. They spent time sitting and patting
at first but I think he just lays down and goes to sleep now. He
nurses *and* rocks for nap at home and I'm doing good to get him to
lay down at all :-) It is the wonder of routine, mom gone, and seeing
all the other kids do it I think. So my suggestion would be to not
worry about it. They may have to rock her for a bit but they'll get
her to lay on her cot a lot easier then you will be able to.

All children are different of course but Luke does all that before
falling asleep as well. He did it more at 18 months then he does now
at 2. He is either more used to the routine or more tired because he
is more active and outside more. We read books (Hunter is with us,
Luke doesn't always pay attention although more so now) and sometimes
he doesn't even stay in bed. I let him do whatever he wants but when
we are done reading I turn the lights out and stop everything,
although I don't make any comments about his fiddling. Any singing or
patting by me really drags things out and he never goes to sleep. I'd
try to tuff it out for a week with just staying in bed. At 18 months
it would take 30 minutes sometimes so that is a long time. That
includes some book time though which most people probably don't do in
bed? When he is really tired he rolls over and goes to sleep before
Hunter and I are done with books :-) I couldn't lay Luke down without
waking him up so I had more motivation to let him fall asleep laying
in bed ;-)

Good luck!
