DW and I bought our son a Sesame Street CD for the car, titled "Kids
Favorite Songs" (if i'm not mistaken).
It's not bad - it's more like a musical where the characters interact
before after and during the songs, so they just don't sing the songs
start to finish and that's it.
But during "Row Row Row Your Boat", towards the end, Snuffleupugus and
Elmo's boat starts sinking, and as the song ends, and the boat sinks,
Snuffy says "Well we SUCK!"
At first I was like - woah, did I just hear that? Maybe he is just
mispronouncing "sunk". Nope. Replay it over and over and over and...
he's saying "SUCK". There's no "unk" there whatsoever.
Now, I'm not some uptight person who can't stand swearing. I can throw
F bombs around with the best of them, but to me "suck" is such a curde
and negative word that I can't believe a Sesame Street character would
say it. And if any character were to say it , it should be the
grouch !! lol
Elmo is also heard saying "Not!" in a song, which is funny to hear.
I guess they are trying to modernize the characters - maybe they say
"suck" and "yo" and "wussup" on the TV Show, I dont know, we don't
watch.
But still.. I would think those words should be left out of Sesame
Street lingo. I mean, what's next "hey big bird, i'm gonna put a cap
in yo a**" ??
I don't have a sailors mouth, but I did my share of swearing before we
had our son. During DW's pregnancy we were like "what are we going to
do about swearing?" Well we completely stopped. I know they are only
words, but there's just something about them that little kids
shouldn't be saying.
And I know "suck" isn't swearing, but I still don't think a Sesame
Street character should be saying it. Just seems wrong. lol
maybe it's just me. at least i'm not writing about being worried about
what my son is eating lol
