First, I don't think alcohol consumption is an evil. I think it's
something kids should learn about, as something to do in moderation.
That a drink is something to appreciate and enjoy, but if you have too
much, you get sick ;)
As a kid, my parents never hesitated to let us try alcohol, so it was
never some forbidden fruit. Still, one time I had too much and got
sick....I didn't even try to lie, my dad took one look at me and knew.
He told me he'd spare the lecture, that the hangover would be enough
to teach me a lesson. He was right.
Now, that said, I would have a discussion about drinking too much, and
the risks of alcoholism and dependency, not to mention driving
problems, but I'm likely to handle it as you are doing, should it ever
arise.
