When dd#2 and #3 had infants and would fly to come and see us, we got
a car seat (shared between me and my mother) so that we could pick
them up at the air****t in our cars and they wouldn't have to bring the
car seat along on the plane.   This was the suggestion of dd#1 who
would often loan them a car seat of hers (and other equipment).  But
it wasn't always convenient for dd#1 to do air****t pickup. 

So it isn't necessarily so that the parent has to supply the car seat.
