That's because they are useless -- until they are quite a bit older, when
they
have other kinds of value. My Mum has a 1935 Collins British Empire
Dictionary, which includes maps of the world, pictures of modern aircraft
etc

Check the cost of an online subscription before coughing up the dough. I
remember using World Book for primary school assignments (maybe years 4-6)
but
once you hit high school (years 7-12 here) it isn't much use -- too basic.
OTOH the Britannica is probably OK for high school, but is too detailed
for
primary school, and like all encyclopedias, it decreases in usefulness as
your
general knowledge increases through high school.
