That reminds me to add something I left out.  Whenever there is a
recurring problem like this, I find it helps a lot to keep a written
log or a chart.  Write down the start time, the severity, the
duration.  Do it as it happens, because you won't remember all the
details in the morning.  Keep a little notebook or whiteboard in the
baby's room.  You may notice a pattern and maybe even a connection to
other things:  when he poops, what he eats, and when, when his diapers
are wet, etc.
