Without the cogs, society breaks down real quick. And "improving
society" is not something that everyone wants, especially if it means
putting an elite above everyone else.

Egalitarianism, and tearing down elites is part of our culture, and
has been since the 1620s.

Yes with modern technology (which costs money, and seldom saves it).

Kids are required BY LAW to have adult supervision. If they aren't
all doing the same thing, then there needs to be more adults rather
than fewer. Non-special-ed services in public schools don't cost much
more than day-care.

>Improvements will be made by the cream.

Many of not most people would rather do without the "improvements", if
it requires setting an elite over the common people.

Wishful thinking.

Correct. That is because they are CHILDREN and our society does not
want CHILDREN to think for themselves, but to do what the adults tell
them to do.

And that isn't about to change.

Since universal suffrage isn't going away any time soon, maybe we need
to find a way.

>Are we going to treat all kids like dumbkopfs?

No. Like immature kids, because they are, by definition, immature
kids, until they hit the magic 18, regardless of how intelligent they
are, and then suddenly they are full and mature adults, regardless of
reality, except when it comes to alcohol use.

The Founding Fathers lost that battle relatively early on.

Not even close. You couldn't be female; you couldn't be black or
native American. You couldn't be south of Virginia, where higher
education was almost non-existent. You couldn't be rural, because no
one would find out your capabilities, including you. And of course
you couldn't be poor, because there weren't scholar****ps.

It doesn't matter what the amount is. It is the fact that most of the
public knows that their kids will be attending public schools that
causes them to want the public schools to be as good as possible.

Nope It will just be replaced by a different cost.
