I read one story in a Psych journal where an old lady came in
complaining that the people downstairs were poisoning her.  She was
thought to have some type of dementia.  She said that when she was in
the bathroom, she would get dizzy and 'fall off the pot'.  It turned
out when her blood was tested that it was positive for PCP (I think -
it's been a couple of years since I read this) and the ether from the
'lab' downstairs was coming up into her bathroom.

I haven't really been following this, but when someone has "taken" a
drug it could mean that they ingested it or it could mean that they
stole it.

Even alcohol can be absorbed through the skin.  One of my former
students was cleaning up printing ink with alcohol and wasn't using
gloves.  He said that his mother would complain that he had stopped
off for a drink on the way home - but he hadn't.  

Of course, the alcohol has the same effect either way you get it into
the system.
